The wait is finally over! Today is the release of The Shins Port Of Morrow. I am already in love with this album with only one listen. It is probably because I'm a sucker for Mr. Mercer's voice, the slide guitar, and the song writing. I feel like the drumming is a little more prominent in this album. My favorite tracks so far are "It's Only Life", "For A Fool", and of course "Simple Song." Check out the entire album below!

Spoek Mathambo + Some Local Portland Bands
Listen up everyone because this music is what I like to call genre crashing. There is literally something in all these bands that anyone will like. Some tribal, a little rap, chill wave, synth house, and of course indie rock 'n' roll. First up is Spoek Mathambo with his latest album Father Creeper. This album definitely has a great South Africa influence to it, but not only that, there is a lot of Shabazz Palaces influence to it as well. Now for some local bands that also cross genres like nobody's business. Lavender Mirror is another band that has a lot of tribal influence to them. Yet they are able to interweave a great club mix into their sound as well, but at the same time making their tracks nice and spacey as well. Check them out here.
Next is solo artist Pool of Winds. He's got a great sound that is a mixture of the new '80s chillwave that reminds me of Washed Out's earlier EP and some really groovy euro house.
Yet another great genre crossing band, Onuinu (on-u in-u), has a kind of funky disco/house chill indie rock sound. Their synth loops makes for a really spacey sound as well though, so it's a really dance-y yet groovy kind of music.

Atomic Mama + Fountains
Two more weeks to the inaugural Treefort Music Festival in Boise, Idaho, so how about a couple more bands that will be performing there? Atomic Mama is a local act of Boise and they have a great EP out called Bodies In the Sun. There is all kinds of different influences here, some electronic dj style stuff mixed with guitars and loud synthesizers. It's awesome party music that's for sure. My favorite track is "Psychocillin Roboboogie" so check out that song (track 5) plus the EP below.
Now for some great post-rock goodness with a band called Fountains. Drawing on the influences of past post-rock greats makes listening to Fountains' Barn EP seem almost nostalgic. Though they are only a guitar, synth, and drums, it sounds more like a five piece band. I believe the right term for this band is hella-posty. Check out the EP below.

Alabama Shakes + White Orange
Hey everyone I've been digging on these two bands the last couple of days and thought I should share them with you! We'll start with local Portland, Oregon band White Orange. I just caught their side project, Black Pussy, the other night and they rocked so I thought I would check out their main act. It is some really awesome psychedelic rock/metal, a lot of wah-wah pedals being used at the same time. Check out the latest self-titled album below and rock out.
Next up is a band that I came across recently called Alabama Shakes. Their debut album drops the first week of April, but their single "Hold On" is one of those songs that I can't get out of my head. I would say that their music is rock 'n' soul, and I'm really excited to hear their first album. After hearing the EP below I'm sure you'll be too.

Welcome March
Welcome to one of the best months out of the year. Spring tours are starting, SXSW is going to kick everyone in the face, the inaugural Treefort Music Festival is going to melt brains, The Shins' Port Of Morrow releases, Spring is just around the corner, and there's going to be some excellent changes to Killing Sasquatch starting this month. So let's kick off the most hopeful month with some awesome music.
We'll start off the month with The Loom. Hailing from Brooklyn, New York they have a sound that reminds me vaguely of The National. I love the mix of the drums and trumpet, then you put in a high flying guitar solo and it's like something you haven't heard before. Check out their latest album Teeth below the awesome rooftop video.
Next up is a band that is all about the Northwest. Holiday Friends have a plethora of sounds. Guitar and keyboards are just the foundation of their happy-go-lucky rock 'n' roll. Their debut album is about to drop some time in the next week or two so look for the title Chicks. In the meantime check out their demos for the album below.
Now something with a little more kick-ass-ness. Teens is yet another band from Boise, Idaho who are into the whole rocking faces off scene. Their self titled debut album came out last year and they are planning to come out with another one sometime this year. Their sound is super crunchy guitar rock coming from an underground bunker type of noise. Check out the fantastic debut album below.
