Back To The Music

Since last time I have updated there has been a lot of cool new stuff.
Male Bonding came out with their second full length album Endless Now. They have a great post-punk sound that is reminiscent of Blink-182. Stream it here for free.
Purity Ring has put out a new single that is wicked awesome. They will be playing at the Doug Fir Lounge in Portland next Thursday. Check out all their releases here.
Another up and coming band is Balam Acab. They just came out with their debut album Wander/Wonder. It is really beautiful, it is what chill wave is all about. Check out some of their older stuff here and listen to the single from it below.

Stephen Malkmus and The Jicks have also put out their latest full length album this month titled Mirror Traffic. Listen to it via NPR.

Winning The War On Drugs

Today saw the release of The War On Drugs's third LP, Slave Ambient. This album is super cool, very relaxed and has a sort of ambient jam-band feel for it. It really brings an element of the dog days of summer. Stream it for free here.
Also out today is Fool's Gold's second full length Leave No Trace. I really like the first track, "The Dive," it has some really cool guitar work along with the rest of the album. It can also be streamed for free here.
Go check out GorillavsBear.net for some really cool new stuff, like new music from CANT and Balam Acab.

Brainstorm + PS I Love You

These two bands are going to be at the wonderful Music Fest NW. Brainstorm is a high energy, two-man pop-rock group from Portland, OR. Their newest single release is called "Flat Earth" and if you don't get instantly hooked on it, well then we have different musical taste. Check out all their stuff here.

PS I Love You is another two man group coming from Kingston, Ontario. Though instead using the minimalist view of Brainstorm they use guitar loops like nobody's business. Awesome guitar riffs mixed with huge solos make for that great indie-rock sound. Check out the vid below and their Facebook here.

Staying Cool With Garage Pop

Cloud Nothings is a band from Cleveland, OH that has a sound that is reminiscent of summer road trips. Driving drum tracks with trashy guitars and some reverb vocals all make up that kind of sound. They also have some crazy weird and awesome videos. Their newest self-titled album is out now via Carpark Records.

Another band you should check out is Love Of Everything. This two person band from Chicago has the minimalist aspect of garage rock down like a clown. They have a new 7" out through Polyvinyl Records.

New Release Tuesday

Today sees the release of Beirut's fourth LP The Rip Tide. It's a really classic Beirut sound complete with accordion, horns, piano, and strings. I really enjoy the tracks "East Harlem" and "Santa Fe." They both have a certain new pop-y-ness to them.

Das Racist has also put out a new single called "Michael Jackson" and once again setting new standards of great hip-hop and rap. Not only a great boom-bamp beat but there's a great overlay of Indian influenced sounds. Check it out.

Other releases include Bassnectar, O.A.R., and a Tame Impala EP.
